“But what kind of music do they play at this party?”
For a long time that question was easy to hear at Voodoohop events, and hard to answer.
With more than 10 years of history, the Voodoohop collective set different bodies moving in unexpected places across downtown São Paulo, opening up the very idea of what a party is: taking over streets and spaces untouched by nightlife, turning every gathering into more than a party — an experience.
In the cathartic diversity of its events, the music created, reinterpreted and transformed there became a catalyst for a movement echoing Brazilian anthropophagy, stretching the idea of “club music” and getting everyone dancing to a sonic stew that could go from cumbia to experimental jazz, from post-punk to samba, from ancestral drumming to the industrial, digital sounds of avant-garde techno — sometimes within a single DJ's set. Anything went in that space of total experimentation, one of the biggest influences on São Paulo's underground and the birthplace of countless movements that grew to shape the independent scene.
In this show we try to answer, in practice: what kind of music do they play at this party?
